this looks familiar. I can't remember where I have seen it before.... hmmmm.

I like this one. except for the smiley faces. the smiley faces seem too simple for the rest of the drawing. the bodies are more expressive -- the bodies make the smiley faces look like masks.

what about developing the faces more? different expressions? the figure on the left seems kind of melancholy (exept for the smile, of course).

oh man you nailed it on the head.
I was looking at it in exactly the same way. I've tried experimenting with ears, noses, eyebrows, etc. and haven't really found a signature motif. but I agree that the faces are going to have to develop. I mean since doing this my characters have developed a variety of ages, hair, and fingers (for the adults). so maybe the next step is added facial features.

and I am glad you detected some melancholy as I feel that emotion was present in the original image.

hey tom,
I took your advice and worked up some face detail.
my biggest challenge was trying to keep "my style" with the additional feature(s). I feel I was successful.
I like it and will use it more in the future. thanks for pushing me into a new place.
oh - if you want to see the new image it has replaced the original on da.
